I Have A Dream, Syria War and Miss Miley Cyrus

In tonight’s special extended edition of Planet Waves FM, I play the full recording of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Then I do the astrology of that day, and also take a look at Dr. King’s chart as well. The charts are below; here is the verified text of the speech.
Our musical guest is the Boston-based rock string quartet Darlingside, who I met at Backstage Studio Productions (BSP) in Kingston, NY. Note — Friday’s member edition of Planet Waves will focus on BSP, and I’ll soon have a special edition podcast about the place.
In the second half of the program, I look at the chart for John Kerry’s pitch to go to war with Syria. And I investigate the astrology of Miley Cyrus after her performance at Monday night’s VMA awards. If you want to see the video, it’s the second one down on this page at Huffington Post.
I don’t critique the video — rather, I explain its significance as an event in the history of sexual liberation. I also give a good sniff to Miley’s extraordinary chart. Note, I don’t have the birth time but I do know that the published time is wrong. I plan to publish the accurate data when I have it from the state of Tennessee.
You can find a direct link to the MP3 of the program on this URL. Here is your program in the Old Player. Note, will also be able to download a compressed file of the program on the Old Player page, which also includes a full archive of Planet Waves FM going back to 2010.
Eric,
Whoa…thank you so much for last night’s edition of Planet Waves FM. I feel like I’ve been on a trip in an altered state…in a good way! From the shivers up and down my spine listening to the Rev. Dr. MLK’s dream as I contemplate yet another two murders of young black men in my adopted city of Asbury Park NJ where I mentor three young black men who have become as dear to me as my own sons. I realize how far we still are from his dream, as this city is still segregated and families still suffer the loss of their future. Now that the oldest Zaire is 14, I have had to have a serious conversation with him about the sad fact of life of living in a black man’s body and the danger implicit in his corporeal form, so far from the beauty that is his spirit and his 150 watt smile that melts my heart. How I hated being the one to destroy his innocence for the sake of his safety!
Then the piece on Kerry/Syria. Those readers of the NY Times are spot on! Yes, endless, agonizing war where no one wins except the beneficiaries of the military economy. Thanks for saying it like it is! Most people, if they’re paying any attention, are swayed by the false emotions telegraphed by the political spinners. I appreciate your context and opposing views which provide balance and sanity. I think most people are Quakers in their beliefs on war.
Finally, when speaking of the young adults born in late ’80s early ’90′s, you articulated what I lived with my three children born 8/88, 3/90 and 5/91! I was born 2/64 in a constricted, punitive, totalitarian regime of Irish Catholic Crazy! When this cluster of babies was born to me at 24, I knew on a very deep level I had to remember how my parents would handle a situation with my siblings and me and do a 180 with my own children. In this way, they raised me! They were willful, brilliant, and banded together like little lobbyists against any perceived subjugation. When they were reckless, rebellious teens, I would wail, head in hands “Oh why did I raise them in a democracy?!” All that you said about Uranus conjunct Neptune in Capricorn and Uranus conjunct Pluto in Virgo collided with us! You named what I lived! Whoa. These kids transformed me top to bottom and I’m happy to report they are the coolest, most independent, responsible and kind young adults I know. They realize the BS in the culture and find their own truth, trust their own instincts, and though not as prominent as Miley, live on their own terms. Cool, right?
Thanks for being you!
Katie
