Backstage Uptown: This Weekend at BSP in Kingston
Tonight’s edition commences a new program on Planet Waves FM, featuring Mike Amari of Backstage Studio Productions. I recently covered them in this recent article, and featured an interview with them as well. Each week he will be introducing the weekend’s programming at BSP, complete with songs composed by the artists. We’ll provide a schedule and links to the artists’ websites. Here’s the rundown for this weekend.
THUR., SEPT. 5: HOME BODY // BROWN BREAD // O-FACE 18+, 9 pm
Home Body (of Northampton, MA) is an artful electro-pop duo, winning over eardrums left and right with their bold, gutsy, charm. Tight beats, layered glitzy synths, and guttural bass lines march with imaginative, strong vocal melodies riding proudly on their shoulders. Home Body’s music inhabits the sonic space that’s on the edge between machine and mankind, where the manufactured and the organic dance, collide, and figure each other out.
FRI., SEPT. 6: SPIRIT FAMILY REUNION // LAST GOOD TOOTH – $10/12, 18+, 9 pm
Facebook Event Page | Advanced Sale Tickets | Listen on NPR or Listen Here | Spirit Family Reunion homepage
Homegrown American six piece band Spirit Family Reunion merge youthful, rousing music with timeless Americana folk, and have managed to catch the ear of indie rock and folk audiences alike. Before they were even a proper ‘band’, they were busking street corners and subway stations in New York City, a far cry from their upcoming four month long tour through the United States. Most recently, Spirit Family Reunion had the honor of playing Newport Folk Festival, which was featured on NPR (stream that set here), as well as the beloved Mountain Jam held every June in at Hunter Mountain.

Opening the show will be Hudson Valley via Providence RI group Last Good Tooth. Signed earlier this year to New Paltz based Team Love Records, Last Good Tooth have a downright dirty folk sound that is captivating, and a lyrical sense that is akin to Team Love founder and Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst.
SAT.. SEPT. 7 — DJ MAJIC JUAN || VIRGO PARTY – $7, 21+, 10 pm
Virgos unite! DJ Majic Juan (a Virgo himself, and part of the Parliament Funk lineage) will be spinning deep soul, funk, R&B, and Hip Hop! Ladies free before Midnight.
